Communique from the International Presbytery Counselors Chosen for the IP Meeting Regarding the 2020 Selection Process of General Overseer
Greetings! This communication is sent with prayerful thoughts of you, your family, and our people around the world. Consistent with the letter from the Corporate Board of The Church of God of Prophecy which cancelled the 2020 IP Meeting and the International Assembly as a result of the worldwide pandemic and its consequences, Bishop Sam N. Clements, General Overseer, has been asked by all the Assembly authorities (General Presbytery, Church’s Corporate Board [formerly Administrative Committee], Biblical Doctrine and Polity Committee and Finance and Stewardship Committee), to withdraw the announcement of his transition dated October 16, 2019, and to continue to serve the Church as general overseer until the next International Assembly in 2022. He has graciously consented to do so in these extraordinary circumstances. As those who were chosen to guide the “in-meeting” selection procedures pursuant to the current Governance Document of the International Presbytery, and after being duly consulted in a joint meeting with the General Presbytery on March 25th, 2020, we expressed full agreement with this decision. Consistent with the inevitable decisions taken, the selection process has likewise been cancelled. May God bless you and keep you, your family, and His people in safety and health in this difficult time. We believe that He will guide and preserve the Church by His Holy Spirit. Pray for us and for the whole Church.
Signed,
Adrian L. Varlack, Sr.
